TBS Energi Utama is an Indonesian company that is transforming from a fossil-based business into a green, low-carbon enterprise. Today, TBS focuses on three business pillars: waste management, renewable energy, and electric vehicles.
TBS aspires to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030 and one of Southeast Asia’s leading sustainability-focused businesses. By 2030, the company aims for most of its earnings to come from its three green pillars: waste management, renewable energy, and electric vehicles.
The transformation is driven by national and global shifts toward clean energy, Indonesia’s Net Zero 2060 commitment, and the natural maturity of TBS’s coal assets. Instead of expanding fossil operations, TBS is investing in green sectors that offer stronger long-term value, reduced risk, and positive environmental and social impact.
TBS is building three long-term growth platforms:
- Waste management: Developing an integrated regional waste ecosystem covering collection, recycling, and future waste-to-resource solutions.
- Renewable energy: Expanding clean energy through floating solar, mini-hydro, and early-stage wind development. • Electric vehicles: Through Electrum, supporting electric two-wheelers and battery-swapping infrastructure across Indonesia.
TBS contributes to the country’s sustainability goals by expanding renewable energy capacity, strengthening modern waste infrastructure, and accelerating the shift to electric mobility. These efforts support national emissions-reduction targets and circular-economy development.
TBS2030 is TBS’s long-term roadmap that guides the company’s transition from fossil-based operations to green, low-carbon growth. It includes clear targets for carbon neutrality, divestment from coal, expansion of waste management, renewable energy, and electric vehicles, and strengthened ESG governance across the group.
Sustainability is embedded across the company through ESG governance, emissions-reduction plans, responsible business practices, and community development frameworks. Each business unit uses sustainability scorecards and KPIs to track progress and alignment with TBS2030.
TBS supports communities through education programs, SME development, and workforce reskilling as part of its Just Transition commitment. The TBS Foundation strengthens these efforts through programs focused on education quality, thought leadership, and impact capital.
TBS is executing structured divestments from coal-based assets, preparing affected workers through reskilling, and reinvesting proceeds into its three green pillars: waste management, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. This ensures a responsible and orderly transition.
TBS is among the few Indonesian companies undertaking a full transformation from coal to green sectors with clear targets, defined timelines, and integrated platforms across waste management, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. This makes TBS a distinctive sustainability leader in the region.
