Bisnis, JAKARTA — Singapore's commitment to increase its clean energy mix by 4 gigawatts (GW) by 2035, given its limited land for generating electricity from NRE sources, presents a significant opportunity for Indonesia to meet the electricity needs of the Lion City.
This opportunity is further underlined by Indonesia’s teeming NRE potential, including solar energy, wind, hydro, bioenergy, geothermal, and ocean energy, totaling 3,686 GW. Geographically, Singapore is close to the Riau Islands, making it a favorable option for Singapore's electricity supply.
It’s no wonder that many companies in Indonesia are trying to seize the opportunity to export electricity to Singapore by actively pursuing NRE projects, mainly through solar power plants.
So far, PT Adaro Energy Indonesia Tbk. (ADRO), PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk. (MEDC), and PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk. (TOBA) have partnered with the government to carry out electricity exports to Singapore.
